Eugene Edward Friedel, 88, died at 6:45 a.m. July 26, 2009, at St. Rita?s Medical Center. He was born November 3, 1920, in Kenton, Ohio to Edward J. and Imogene L. Dolph Friedel, who preceded him in death. He married Mary Ellen King, who died in 1984. On February 14, 1987, he married Ella K. Barkley, who survives in Lima, Ohio. Mr. Friedel was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church. He retired from the United Telephone Co. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He liked outdoor activities. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3333, Kenton. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II, serving from September 8, 1941, to January 11, 1946. Survivors also include a stepson, Fred (Darla) Reinemeyer, of Kenton, Ohio; two stepdaughters, Rita (Nathan) Thatcher, of Lakeview, Ohio, and Mary (Jim) Lease, of Kenton, Ohio; and eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Clara Croy and Kathleen Angier. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Charles Catholic Church. The Rev. Stephen Blum will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Kenton, Ohio. Friends may call one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor?s choice.
