Eve J. "Miss Eve" Armentrout 72, died at 7:51 p.m. on September 2, 2010, at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima, Ohio. She was born December 23, 1937, in St. Marys, Ohio to Harold Morris and Corrinne A. O'Neill Morris-Souva, who have preceded her in death. On June 30, 1961, she married Virgil E. Armentrout, who died January 23, 1970.
Mrs. Armentrout resided in Lima, Ohio, all her life and was in the last graduating class of Lima Central High School in June 1955. While at Central, Eve earned her Varsity Letter "C" and chevrons in sports, and was a member of the "C" Association. During her senior year and one and a half years later, she was a volunteer plane spotter for the Ground Observer Corps during the Korean War and was awarded her Silver Wings from the U.S. Air Force at that time.
Mrs. Armentrout was well-known in restaurant work in the Lima area, having worked in and managed several restaurants before working at Shawnee Country Club and the Allen County Juvenile Court. She was employed as a cook at the Allen County Juvenile Court for more than 26 years. She began working for the court August 2, 1982, retiring on April 30, 2009. In 1988, Eve was awarded the "Line Staff of the Year" award. This award is from the Ohio Department of Juvenile Service Association. She was the first cook to ever receive this award. In 1996, she was awarded the National Juvenile Detention Association Award, and while at the Juvenile Detention Center, she also received the Community Service Award.
Mrs. Armentrout was a past member of the Lima Charter Chapter, American Business Women's Association, and received its "Woman of the Year" award in 1989. She had served as corresponding secretary, program chairwoman and president. She was a past member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge, Lima, Ohio. She also held memberships in the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary 370 and the Lima Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275, and she was a member of Active Life Style Health and Fitness Club and swam many times for the St. Jude Telethon in June. She was a member of Lake Winona and an active member of Lima Trinity United Methodist Church, Lima, Ohio, having served on the Breakfast Committee, Hospitality Hour and Communion Committee. She was also an active supporter of Disabled American Veterans and maintained status of "Bronze Leader-Ohio". She was a supporter of the Commanders Club, and she was a huge supporter of the University of Notre Dame football.
Survivors include two sons, Greg (Jeni) Armentrout, of Lima, Ohio, and Steve Armentrout, of Lima, Ohio; a daughter, Debra Marshall, of Lima, Ohio; two sisters. Josphine Rae Souva-Smith, of Bad Axe, Michigan, and Dianne (Bruce) Bowman, of Lima, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Zach Marshall, Emily Perrin, Zac Dickman, Sarah Marshall, Amber Armentrout, Kaylah Armentrout, Cara Jane Armentrout and Codie Armentrout; and several great-grandchildren and several stepchildren. She was preceded in death by a stepfather, Joseph Souva; a grandfather, R.J. Judy; a grandmother, Eva Judy; and a grandson, Steven V. Armentrout, II.
Services will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 11, 2010, at Lima Trinity United Methodist Church, Lima, Ohio. The Rev. David Harris will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 10, 2010, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home in Lima, Ohio.
