Evelyn L. Armstrong 85, died at 6:08 p.m. Feb. 12, 2010, at her residence surrounded by her family. She was born Jan. 10, 1925, in Lima to Charles and Blanche Caldwell Leppla, who preceded her in death. On April 16, 1945, she married Russell Armstrong, who died Aug. 6, 1976 Mrs. Armstrong worked for Elida schools in the cafeteria as the ?ticket lady.? She retired from St. Rita?s Medical Center as a supervisor. She was a graduate of Elida High School and a charter member of Peace/New Creation Lutheran Church and held many offices within the church, including participating in the choir. She also was a member of the St. Rita?s Auxiliary/Volunteer Resources and St. Rita?s Mercy Club. The family also wants to acknowledge the ?extended family? of special caregivers who have been with her for the past year. Survivors include a son, Ronald (Stephanie) Armstrong, of Elkhart, Texas; two daughters, Lu Ann Armstrong and Kathy (Larry) Williams, both of Elida; a stepdaughter, Wilma Nagel, of Waynesfield; a stepson, Bob (Leola) Armstrong, of Spartanburg, S.C.; a sister and brother-in-law, Leola (Bob) Armstrong, of Spartanburg, S.C.; a sister-in-law, Betty Leppla; eight grandchildren, Ruth Ann, Ron, Dawn, Alan, Karen, Brandon, Ashleigh and Haley; and seven great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a stepson, Jack (Cathy) Armstrong; three brothers, Clyde, Don and Charles ?Chuck? Leppla; and three sisters, Helen Foard, Mildred Liggett and Janet Leppla. Services will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday at New Creation Lutheran Church, in Lima. Pastor Samuel Payne will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Elida. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor?s choice.
