Evelyn M. Blanchard
passed away peacefully at 5:10 A.M. on December 18, 2012 at St. Rita's Medical Center.
She was born on November 1, 1919 in Alger Ohio to Ethel (Dear) and Ora Newland. She often told her family stories of weeding onions in the marshes near Alger, and her early jobs at Woolworths and the Kewpee. She retired from Ex-Cell-O in 1978.
In 1946 she married Eugene Blanchard who preceded her in death in 1993. Evelyn was the last surviving spouse of the 9 Blanchard siblings. Their son, Michael, passed away in 2011. She was also preceeded in death by brothers Theodore and Norman, and sisters Theora and Dolores.
She is survived by a daughter, Carolyn (James) Bohnlein of Canal Winchester; sons, Ken of Lima and Richard (Becky) of Harrod.
Also surviving are: her sister, Alice Hayhurst of Lima and brother, Harold Newland of Alger. In addition she had 9 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church, where a memorial mass will be celebrated at 1:30 P.M. on Friday, December 21, 2012. Burial will follow in Gethsemani Cemetery, Lima, Ohio
Visitation will be at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home from 4-8 P.M. on Thursday, December 20, 2012.
