Father Emmett Holmes S.J., 87, formerly of Lima, passed away peacefully on Holy Thursday at Columbiere Retirement Center in Clarkston, Michigan. He was born August 5, 1928 to Harold F. and Catherine R. (Runiger) Holmes.
Emmett was a 1946 Saint Rose graduate. He was ordained a Jesuit priest on June 14, 1959. He was a recipient in 2012 of the Manresa Award. It is the highest award given by the Jesuits for inspirational leadership and service to others.
Emmett it was a very proud supporter of his beloved Walsh Jesuit Warrior teams, and devoted more than 30 years to the care and education of Walsh Jesuit students. Emmett was a very accomplished Saint Rose baseball player. His family always said he chose the Jesuits over Major-League Baseball.

How appropriate it is that he passed to the Lord on Holy Thursday, the day on which we commemorate the gift of Jesus' own Body and Blood in the Eucharist.
