Frank Wade Dine
passed away peacefully on September 7, 2013.
Frank was born in Sudan, Texas in February 7, 1926 to Frank and Maurine Jaynes Weaver. He was raised in Hollister, California by his mother and step-father, Charles Dine.
Frank joined the Navy on January 5, 1944, one month prior to his 18th birthday. Master Chief Dine was trained as an aircraft gunner (A0) and assigned to a sea plane squadron to sea duty in Saipan, Coral Sea, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa, then was in Tokyo Bay on board the USS Hamlin AV15 for the surrender ceremony. He also served in Korea.
He served in various commands in later years to retire in Alameda, CA on board the aircraft carrier Hancock (CVA-19) after completing 2 tours in Vietnam as the Administrative Chief on board. His twilight cruise was at Alameda, CA and Monterey, CA. He was transferred to fleet reserve on March 17, 1969 and eventually retired in 1975.
He moved to Ohio in 1973 and opened up Frank's Auto Wash in Lima. Frank and his wife, Barbara, moved to Lima in 1980. Frank and Barbara, along with their son, Bill, continue to own and operate the business today. Frank enjoyed spending winters in Corpus Christi, Texas
Frank belonged to various organizations such as the American Legion Post 0096, Elks Club Lodge 54, and the Fleet Reserve.
Frank is survived by his wife of 33 years, Barbara Forest; siblings Charlotte Walker, Zena (Betty) McAllister, Bonnie Jean Marrs, and the late Charles Edward Dine.
He is also survived by his children Carol Block (Lynn); Joyce Evans (Bob); Sherry Coletti (John); Jon Forest (Ann); Michael Forest; Greg Forest; and William Forest. He also leaves 12 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, as well as his mother-in-law, Ruth Vawter.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4:00 P.M. and 6 to 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at 1:00 P.M. at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home.
