Frank Laurita
91, went home to be with the Lord on April 30th, 2018.
Frank Laurita was born November 24th, 1926 in Herbert, Pennsylvania. He was one of 13 children born to Itailian immigrants Luigi and Rose Laurita. At the age of 18, Frank enlisted in the United States Army and volunteered into the 13th Airborne which later joined the 82d Airborne Division. After the War, he returned home and started looking for employment and was hired by the Ford Motor Company in 1947 and started working in Detroit Michigan. He met and married his wife Elizabeth “Betty” in 1951. Frank and Betty later moved and settled in Lima, Ohio in 1957 with Ford Motor Company.
Frank was proud of his Italian Heritage and was a member of the Charitable Italian American Organization (CIAO) and traveled to Italy to visit where his parents were born. He also kept in contact with Ford retirees. After retirement, Frank and Betty would spend their winters in Arizona, where Frank liked visiting the Casinos and playing his Keno.
Frank was an avid and skillful gardener and could a grow a 2 pound tomato. He spent his free time gardening, and would share his produce with friends and neighbors. Frank was a loyal Steelers and Pirates fan and would attend games with his family. He also continued to “play his lottery numbers”.
Frank is survived by is 6 children, Roland Laurita of Cape Coral Florida, Francis Laurita of Lima, Michael (Jeannie) Laurita of Columbus Grove, Karen (Ray) Lopez of Arizona, Kathy (David) Grovum of Minnesota and Lauri (Mario) Arredondo of Arizona. He is preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth and his daughter Barbara Laurita. He has 11 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home on Thursday May 3rd from 4pm to 8pm. An additional showing will be held on Friday, May 4th at Saint Gerards Church 240 W. Robb Ave. Lima Ohio from 11am to Noon with Mass following.
