FRANKLIN R. BAILEY, 86, died at 5:15 a.m. May 6, 2006, at Beverly Health care Center, Lima, Ohio. He was born November 27, 1919, in Logan County, Ohio, to George Lee and Clara R. Rose Bailey. On March 10, 1940, he married Ruth G. Chiles, who survives in Lima, Ohio. Mr. Bailey was a member of Westside United Methodist Church and formerly High Street United Methodist Church. He retired from Columbus Company in 1981 as maintenance supervisor at Carlton House after retiring from Peterson Construction Co. and had worked at R.J. Chiles & Sons Construction for several years as a brick mason. He was a life member of Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge 54 and a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars post 1275. He was a veteran of World War Two, entering the Army on March, 1944 and discharged in February, 1946. He was in the 7th Armored Infantry and received a Purple Heart after being wounded at the Battle of the Bulge. He was a 1937 graduate of Jackson Center High School. He loved basketball and played on the varsity team that won county championships and placed for State tournament. He was married to Ruth G. Chiles by Rev. E.J. Penhorwood. They just celebrated their 66th anniversary in March. He enjoyed fishing, playing golf and bowling and was a member of several golf and bowling leagues. He also enjoyed skiing and boating with family. He has served as president of the Longfellow PTA. Survivors also include two daughters, Karen S. Beers of Chattanooga, Tennesse, and Karol A. Bailey of Seal Beach, California; a brother-in-law, James R.v Chiles of Port Orange, Florida; three grandchildren, Kerri L. Beers of St. Louis Missouri, K.. Brian Beers of San Marcos, Texas and Michael Bailey of Seal Beach, California; four nephews, J. Loren Chiles and Donald, Robert and Michael Bailey; and two nieces, Sherrill Clay Hizer and Catherine M. Chiles. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, E. Doyle, Gerald L. and Merle E. Bailey; and a sister, Mary Bernadine Clay. Services will begin at 4 p.m. today at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. William Cronk will officiate. Burial of ashes will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Willow Branch Cemetery, Waynesfield, Ohio where graveside military services will be performed by VFW Post 1275.
