Franklin Cooley

Franklin D. Cooley, 92, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2023, at his residence.

Franklin was born on October 23, 1930, in Warren, Ohio to Merrill F. and Nelle (Copeland) Cooley. On January 31, 1951, he married Barbara H. (Turner) Cooley who preceded him in death in May 2001. In June of 2002, he married Alice (Cummans) Cooley who preceded him in death in February 2022.

Franklin was the former pastor of Wesley United Methodist Church, and formerly owned Edu-Caters in Lima, Ohio. He was a member of the Lima Men’s Garden Club, Trinity’s Free Store, the Breakfast Program at Trinity, and also a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He loved woodworking, gardening, photography, poetry, and traveling.

He is survived by his children and stepchildren, Sharon L. (William) Kelley of Lakeside, OH, William M. Cooley of Lima, OH, Dr. David A. (Amada Aguina) Cooley of Pueblo, CO, Kevin D. (Barbara A.) Cooley of Lima, OH, Jan (Tom) Reinsel, Angie (Dennis) Hefner, and James Scott (JoAnn) Cummans; eight grandchildren; and many great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Charles F. Cooley.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Friday, September 15, 2023, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Lima, Ohio.  Funeral service will follow at 11 a.m.   Pastor John Foster will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Habitat for Humanity, Trinity Church, or the Gardeners Club of Lima, Garden Club.
