Franklin Monroe "Shorty" Winegardner

Franklin Monroe "Shorty" Winegardner,
88, died at 1:15 PM on Tuesday, January 27, 2015, at Wyngate Senior Living Community in Lima, Ohio.
He was born on March 22, 1926, in Auglaize Township, Allen County to the late Arthur Clinton Winegardner and Mary Winifred (Hefner) Winegardner Lackey.
He married Jean Ackerman on June 2, 1946. She preceded him in death. He served in the United States Navy from 1944 to 1946 Quartermaster 2nd Class, WWII. He received an Associate Degree in Business Administration and Higher Accounting from Northwestern School of Commerce in Lima. He was a registered Public Accountant for John and Doty, CPA's, then Treasurer/ Controller at First Federal Savings and Loan. At retirement he became Deputy Registrar. He was a member of West Elm United Church of Christ for 55 years, treasurer of Northwest Ohio Association, UCC, and a member of Faith Christian Church. He was an avid Ohio State football fan. He cared deeply for the community making a difference with his involvement in Church People for Change and Reconciliation, Rehab Project, and the Mizpah Community Center, and many other charitable and service organization.
He is survived by: three daughters, Cheryll Winegardner, Kathleen (David) Paxton, and Lisa (Mike) Bowersock; eleven grandchildren, Brent (Beth) Paxton, Heather (Brian) Gibbons, Hannah Paxton, Sarah Paxton, Caleb Paxton, David Paxton, Jr., Leah Paxton, Clint Bowersock, Tommy Bowersock, James Bowersock, Grace Bowersock; two great grandchildren, Lily Paxton, and Walker Paxton; step brother, Howard (Irene) Lackey, and step sister, Edith Yant.
He is preceded in death by: two brothers, Myron L. (Ann) Winegardner, Vaughn C. Winegardner; a sister, Vivian McGue; a step brother, Francis Lackey, a step brother, Wayne (Eileen) Lackey, step brother, Raymond Lackey, half sister, Lucille (William) Thomas.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, January 30, 2015 at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home in Lima, Ohio.
A funeral service will begin at 10:30 AM on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at Faith Christian Church, 2223 Shawnee Rd., Lima, OH 45805. Rev. Wade Pond will officiate.
Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima, Ohio.
