Fred Thomas Turner, 101, died at 4:55 p.m. on July 21, 2010, at his residence in Lima, Ohio. He was born January 9, 1909, in Evansville, Tennessee, to Major and Josephine Millard Turner. On May 25, 1946, he married Betty J. Stemen who survives in Lima, Ohio. Mr. Turner was a charter member of Lima Baptist Temple, Lima, Ohio. He enjoyed wood carving and collecting artifacts. He retired in 1971 as a machinist from Westinghouse Electric Corp., after 28 years. He was a member of the International Union of Electrical Workers, Local 724. Survivors also include a daughter, Diana Baden, of Lima, Ohio; two grandchildren, Sherree (Jonathan Moore) Sturgeon, of Lima, Ohio, and Chris (Stephanie) Oates, of Philo, Illinois; five great-grandchildren, Brookelynne, Alaina, Sydney, Dylan and Logan; and special friends, Karen and Mel Kohrn. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Sam Turner, Litton Turner and Lee Turner. Services will begin at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, July 24, 2010, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home in Lima, Ohio. The Rev. Gary Hohman will officiate. Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services on Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Rita?s Hospice.
