Fred Gibson John Wakefield,
64, formerly of Lima, OH, died at home March 8, 2012 after years of battling cancer.
He was born Sept. 30, 1947 in North Conway, New Hampshire as the second child to the late Norman G. and Emma (Van den houte) Wakefield. After serving his country in the US Army, he married Nancy (Santos) Wakefield on July 26, 1969 in Dillon, SC. Fred is survived by his wife of 43 years; their two children, Lonnie (Brenda) Wakefield of Delaware, OH and Shawn Wakefield of Lima; his brother, Charles (Joeyann) Wakefield of Lima and his sister Marjorie (Dan) Henry of Lima. He was blessed with and survived by 3 wonderful grandchildren who he loved dearly, Brandon & Colin Wakefield of Delaware & Sarah Wakefield of Lima. Fred will be sadly missed by his extended family also who includes nephews, nieces, and countless brother and sister in-laws.
Fred was a Vietnam veteran who received the Bronze Star Medal with Valor. He was a member of the American Legion, Lima Eagles and the Moose Lodge. He retired from Premcor in 2005 after 35 years of dedication. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing and hunting. Fred treasured his time with family and friends and he will remain forever in our hearts.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 pm and 6-8pm on Tuesday March 13th at the Chamberlain- Huckeriede Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be 10 am Wednesday March 14th, with a private ceremony and interment to follow at Memorial Park. Rev. James Couser will officiate. Graveside military honors will be conducted by VFW 1275 Lima.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the donor's choice of cancer research centers.
