Lima VIRGINIA M. FRUEH, 84, died at 12:30 p.m. May 5, 2004, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg. She was born Aug. 31, 1920, in Lima to John and Elsie Staples, who preceded her in death. Mrs. Frueh had worked at Meat City and had been co-owner of Frueh's Bake Shop. She was a member of St. Gerard Catholic Church and its Altar Rosary Society. She had been in declining health for the last 10 years. She was living with her son in Toledo, but prior to that she had been living with and caring for her ailing mother for several years. She loved her children and grandchildren and loved spending time with them fishing in Lake Erie, vacationing and going to Cincinnati Reds games. She was an avid Reds fan. She was loved and will be greatly missed. Survivors include a son, James L. (Barb) Frueh of Toledo; two daughters, Carolyn (Al) Averesch of Ottawa and Patricia Hahn of Lima; a brother-in-law, Pete Burkholder of Lima; a sister, Della Mae Straker of Easley, S.C.; two brothers, John (Ruth) Staples of Wapakoneta and Donald (Delores) Staples of Spencerville; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and special thanks to her caregiver, Pamela Roberts of Toledo. She was preceded in death by a grandchild, Shell Averesch; a son, William Frueh; two sisters, Opal Blodgett and Mary Burkholder; and a brother, Wilson Staples. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Gerard Catholic Church. The Rev. Thomas Lacey will officiate. Burial will be in St. John Catholic Church Cemetery, Glandorf.
