Gary Lee Bechtel

Gary L. Bechtel “PeeWee”, 80, of Lima, passed away on Sunday, August 27, 2023, at his home.

He was born on January 16, 1943, in Lima to the late Harold and Faye {Johnson} Bechtel. On October 8, 1960, he married Sandra {Hardesty} who preceded him in death on September 11, 2005.

Gary served in the U.S. Army and retired from Ford Motor Company as a mechanic. He loved classic cars and was Mr. Fix It. There was nothing he couldn’t fix. He was an amazing dad and grandpa, and he and his wife were a wonderful example of love.

He is survived by his son, Randy (Sue) Bechtel; daughter, Brenda (Jim) Meyer; grandchildren: Alayna Bechtel, Brandon Meyer, and Austin Meyer; brother, Jim (Sondra) Bechtel; sister, Karen (Harold) VanHorn; and sister-in-law, Sharon Bechtel.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; son, Gary L. Bechtel Jr.; daughter, Carrie Lynn Bechtel; and brother, Dean Bechtel.

His family will receive friends on Friday, September 1, 2023, from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, where a funeral service will follow at 12 p.m.  Burial will be at Salem Westminster Cemetery, Westminster, Ohio.
