Gary P. Meyer, 53, died at 2:38 p.m. July 2, 2008, at St. Rita's Medical Center. He was born October 9, 1954, in Lima, Ohio to Gerald "Gerry" H. and Mildred M. Strauer Meyer. His father survives in Lima, Ohio. His mother preceded him in death. Mr. Meyer had worked at the Sharon Drive-Inn as a security guard, and then for many years as an independent carrier for The Lima News. He was a Detroit Tigers baseball and Ohio State Buckeye fan. He was also an avid CB radio enthusiast. After fighting an extended illness, he was surrounded by his family at the time of his passing. Survivors also include two brothers, Ronald J. (Marilyn) Meyer, of Spencerville, Ohio, and David Lee Meyer, of Albuquerque, N.M.; a cousin, Greg "Cuz" Larotonda; a nephew, Ronald (Jessica) Meyer II, of Spencerville, Ohio; two nieces, Amy Meyer, of Lima, Ohio, and Stacey Ball; a great-niece and two great-nephews; and a special cat, Smokey. Services will begin at 8 p.m. Saturday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. Stephen Blum will officiate. Private burial of the cremains will occur at a later date. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent's Food Pantry, St. Charles Catholic Church Building Fund or the Lymphoma Foundation.
