Gary D. Weaver,
73, of Elida, formerly of Liberty Center, died Sunday, April 3, 2016 at his home with his family by his side.
He was born October 28, 1942 in Wauseon, Ohio, the son of William O. and Kathryn E. Weaver. His father and mother preceded him in death. He married Sandra L. Turner Weaver, the love of his life, on July 12, 1970 and she survives, along with son and daughter-in-law, Joseph F. and Allyson L. Weaver. He is also survived by grandsons Henry W. and Samuel J. Weaver, brother James D. (Elaine) Weaver, sisters Judith D. (James, deceased) Grime and Jeri L. (Rod) Bostelman.
He graduated from Liberty Center High School in 1960 and attended Bowling Green State University and the University of South Dakota. He played football at USD and graduated with a B.S degree in 1966 and a M.A. from BGSU in 1971. He served in the U.S. Army from 1966-1968 in the medical corp attaining the rank of E-5. In 1970 he began his career at the Ohio State University-Lima Technical College as an assistant director in student activities and financial aid. In 1986 he received the first distinguished service award from OSU given at a regional campus.
His two grandsons were his pride and joy. The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses at Cancer Care of West Central Ohio, St. Rita's Hospice, and those at St. Rita's Oncology for their care, hugs, and prayers over the years.
There will be a memorial service at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at 12:00 p.m. with Rev. Todd Cosart officiating. Friends may gather with the family 2 hours prior to the service, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Interment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Gary Weaver Public Service Scholarship at Rhodes State, 4240 Campus Drive, Lima, Ohio 45804, Attn: Development Office, James L Countryman Bldg.
