George J. Bowen, 82, died at 9:46 a.m. July 23, 2010. He was born Feb. 9, 1928 in Mingo County, W. Va., to Sam and Ella Lee Collins Bowen, who preceded him in death. On June 7, 1952, he married Anna L. Hunter Bowen, who died June 21, 1999. Mr. Bowen had previously worked at Baldwin Lima Hamilton for 16 and a half years and Star Carpet, drove a cab in the late 50s, worked at Goodwill and also General Dynamics and JB Tools. He went by Rifleman on the CB radio. He bowled for 27 years at Moreos, 20th Century Lanes and Northland Lanes Wednesday night bowling league and Friday night. He served in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1949. Survivors include a daughter, Tina Bowen, of Lima; two sisters-in-law, Rose and Ethel Beulah; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Loretta Johnson; two brothers, Robert and Sam Jr. Bowen; a granddaughter, Reba; and five sisters, Mae, Sylvia, Frances, Opal and Hettie. Services will begin at 3 p.m. at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home Tuesday. The Rev. Danny Hunter will officiate. Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
