Gerald D. Jones, 81, passed away on December 21 in Thornton, CO.
Gerald, known to family and friends as Jerry, was born on April 11, 1941 in Byesville, Ohio to the late Clarence F. and Bernice M. (Moffett) Jones. He married Cheryl K. (Herr) Jones on November 20, 1971, who passed on December 24, 2021. He is survived by his son Justin Jones, daughter-in-law Veronica Sanchez Jones and grandson Luke Jones.
Jerry retired from the Ford Lima engine plant in 1994 and enjoyed time traveling around the country with his well known bus tours for years. He was also known for his wood carving skills. In his retirement he picked up the hobby and enjoyed making wild life wood carvings that he won ribbons for.
He was also known for being very involved in his church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints. Friends and family knew him to be someone they could count on for help as well as a good laugh. Many people labeled him a jokester. His final days were spent close to his son and family in Denver, Colorado.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, January 6, 2023 at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio. A funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints of Lima, friends may visit one hour prior. Burial will follow at Bluelick Cemetery, Lima.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Missionary Fund at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
