Grace Bowersock

GRACE EDNA BOWERSOCK, 91, died at 7 a.m. July 16, 2004, at her residence. She was born May 22, 1913, in Lima, Ohio, to Ellis B. and Agnes Black Rogers, who preceded her in death. She married Martin Bowersock, who died June 1, 1970. Mrs. Bowersock was a homemaker. She and her husband owned Marty's Restaurant in Kenton. She was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church and its Altar Rosary Society. She was a member of AARP national and the local chapters, serving as local chapter's treasurer for many years. She was a charter member of the St. Rita's Auxiliary, serving as president for numerous terms. She volunteered for the Red Cross, St. Vincent DePaul and Our Daily Bread soup kitchen. She was past president of the Allen County Cancer Society. She was a member of Lima Senior Citizens and Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Auxiliary. She was a charter member of the Lima Convalescent Home Auxiliary, Johnny Appleseed Park Association and St. Rita's Mercy Club. She and her husband also owned Standard bred harness horses. She was an avid gardener. Survivors include a daughter, Elaine (John) Poppe of Wapakoneta, Ohio; a son, Roger Bowersock of Columbia, S.C.; a daughter, Susan (Phillip) Roach of Ocala, Florida; a son-in-law, Bill Farley of Rochester, N.Y.; 13 grandchildren, Michael E. Smith, Susan M. Stevens, Wayne D. Smith, Jamie L. Crisp, Casey E. Crisp, Timothy Farley, Beth Esposito, Bridget Pettit, Mary Grace Walters, Michael Ratigan, Paul Bowersock, Amy Melver and Timothy Bowersock; three step grandchildren, Kris Poppe, Jill Poppe and Barbara Poppe-Faith; and 16 great-grandchildren and eight step great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Diana Farley; and two sisters, Virginia Rogers and Agnes Maude Clement. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. William J. Rose will officiate. Burial will be in Gethsemani Cemetery.
