Grace SHENK

Lima GRACE ANN SHENK, 83, died at 2:10 a.m. May 5, 2005, at the Wyngate Senior Living Community, surrounded by her children. She was born Jan. 5, 1922, in Jay County, Ind., to Charles and Mary Burwell Loy, who preceded her in death. On July 21, 1948, she married Warren G. Shenk, who died Sept. 16, 1994. Mrs. Shenk was a homemaker and had worked in the card section at Kmart for the Sangamon Co. She was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church and its Altar Rosary Society. She had been a member of Alpha Semper Phi Sorority since 1941. She was a 1939 graduate of Sr. Rose Catholic High School. She was a lifelong resident of Lima. Throughout her life she was very active in church, with her family and community and sharing the love and support of many friends and neighbors. She enjoyed music, dancing, gardening and playing cards. She had resided at the Wyngate Senior Living Community for almost three years, where she made new friends among her fellow residents and the caring staff. Survivors include a son, Barth Warren (Cheryl) Shenk of Bellbrook; five daughters, Mary Lisa (Joe) Sharp of Harrod, Teckla (Joseph) Harshbarger of Sidney, Tanya Shenk of Nunn, Colo., Jonella (Craig) Brewer of Springfield and Precia Jo (Edward) Stuby of Fostoria; six brothers-in-law, Lester (Helen) Shenk, Oral Shenk, Tim (Margaret) Shenk, William Shenk, Mike Bastian and Vernon Hertzler; a sister-in-law, Cretora (Roland) Alexander; and 12 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Catherine Hirneise; several other close family members; and eight brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Harold Hirneise, Rollin Shenk, Edward Shenk, Alice Hertzler, Esther Bastian, Pauline Shenk, Merlin (Lucille) Shenk and Nellie (Herman) Heinrich. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Charles Catholic Church. The Revs. David Ritchie and David Ross will officiate. Burial will be in Gethsemani Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Lima Central Catholic High School Scholarship Fund.
