Grovene Gardner Stephenson went home with the Lord March 14, 2011. at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima, Ohio in Lima, Ohio.
Sister Grovene Gardner Stephenson was born August 18, 1940 in Lamar County in Barnesville, Georgia to the parents of Bay and Mary Banks. She was adopted by Brady and Mary Owens Lawrence when she was six weeks old. Both sets of parents are deceased. She was married to John E. Stephenson who preceded her in death.
She was a person that enjoyed doing things for others from the heart. She did many fund raisers for the Midget Football Team as well as for the church. She was a Day Care Mother for many children as well as she did custodial work in homes as well as businesses. She was active in the community and active in her church. She was the President of the Usher Board, a member of the Naomi Missionary, and she enjoyied visiting with seniors as well as the children.
She spent her last days enjoying camping, touring and racing and enjoying family and friends, things that she love.
She has one daughter, Darnelle Gardner of Atlanta, Georgia. She has two sons: Plummie (Netta) Gardner and David L. Stephenson,Sr. both of Lima, Ohio. A step-son, Chris Stephenson of Lima, Ohio. She has a special son Greg Gardner of Atlanta, Georgia. A special daughter Sheryl Gilcrease of Lima, Oho. She has six granddaughters and six grandsons. She also has six great grandchildren. and a host of other special grandchildren. She has two sisters: Saran L. Taylor of Jackson, Georgia and Berth Bell of Miami, Florida.
She has seven deceased brothers and three deceased sisters. She has two surviving brothers: Luther L. Banks of Barnesville, Georgia; Corenthean (Ossie) Banks of Griffin, Georgia.
Services will begin at 1:00 P.M. Thursday at Second Baptist Church. Dr. Dennis Ward will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends may come from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, With the family present from 6 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Chamberlain Huckeriede Funeral Home, 920 N. Cable Rd.
