Harold Edward Dick 69, of Blue Ridge Summit, Pa., formerly of Lima, died at 6:45 p.m. February 12, 2008, at his residence, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born July 27, 1938, in Lima, Ohio to Harold Leo and Alice Ruth Mckee Dick, who preceded him in death. On August 14, 1975, in Lima, Ohio, he married Phyllis A. Dunbar, who survives in Blue Ridge Summit, Pa. They had been married for 32 years. Mr. Dick retired in 1996 as a communications officer from the Department of Defense, where he worked since 1967, traveling to Korea, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam and Okinawa, as well as throughout the United States. He had also been a switchman for the Lima Telephone & Telegraph Co., from 1960 to 1967. He was a life member of the Marine Deep League, Chambersburg, Pa., AMVETS Post 172, Fairfield, Pa., the Blue Ridge Sportsmen?s Association, Blue Ridge Summit, Pa., the South Mountain Rod & Gun Club, South Mountain, Pa., and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He was a member of American Legion Post 239, Cascade, Md., and American Legion Post 15, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 695 and Acacia Lodge 286 Free & Accepted Masons, all in Waynesboro, Pa. He was also a member of Franklin County Shrine Club, the Scottish Rite Club and had served as president of the Lions Club, Blue Ridge Summit, Pa. He was a 1956 graduate of Lima Senior High School. He was a Marine Corps veteran serving from 1956 to 1958. He loved to hunt and fish and had an extensive gun collection. He enjoyed gardening and was known for his wine made from his annual grape harvest. He also enjoyed time spent at the Waynesboro Senior. He loved telling jokes, making people laugh, playing card games, especially euchre, and sharing his life experiences. He and his wife had lived at their current residence since 1976. Survivors also include two daughters, Donna Greenlese, of McComb, and Debbie Plantz, of Georgetown, S.C.; a son, William Jeffrey Dick, of Corry, Pa.; an adopted son, Danny Palm, of St. Simons Island, Ga.; seven grandchildren, Richard Plantz and Jamie Figley, both of Georgetown, S.C., Chelle Barciz and Mykel Barciz, both of McComb, Alexis Dick, Marcie Dick and Matthew Dick, all of Corry, Pa.; and four greatgrandchildren, Courtney Blackenship and Tyler Blackenship, both of Georgetown, S.C., and Haley Figley and John Figley, both of Galion. Services will begin at 2 p.m. Monday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. Wanda Werking will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites by VFW Post 1275.
