Harry O. Sherrick 91, died at 2:20 p.m. March 5, 2010, at Lima Memorial Health System. He was born May 20, 1918, in Elida to Cloyd and Sarah Brenneman Sherrick, who preceded him in death. On Oct. 26, 1940, he married Marguerite Gossard Sherrick, who died June 18, 1989. Mr. Sherrick was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275, a life member of Garrett Wykoff Masonic Lodge 585 Free & Ancient Accepted Masons, a life member of Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 54, a past member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 370, and a past member of the American Legion. He was an avid golfer up until a year ago, having a hole in one at both Hawthorne Hills and Tamarack Golf clubs. He is a past member of Tamarac Country Club and Springbrook Country Club. He retired from Westinghouse Electric after 43 years as a machinist. He was a member of Westinghouse Veterans Association. He served during World War II in the Navy from Nov. 16, 1942, to Sept. 30, 1945, as a second class motor machinist in the European Theater during three invasions, Elba, Salerno and Southern France. He was a member of Westside United Methodist Church. He graduated from Elida High School in 1937 and served as vice president of his senior class and was a basketball and baseball player. He enjoyed spending time with the Breakfast Bunch at McDonald?s on Cable Road. He was also a member of Westside Neighborhood Association. Survivors include a son, Richard (Susan) Sherrick, of Rockford; a daughter, Sheron (James) Heins, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a very special friend, Mary Dunaway, of Lima; three grandchildren, Jodi (Steve) Fettman, of Canton, Tony Wagner, of Galion, and Katie (Sam) Brautigan, of New Bremen; four stepgrandchildren, Caroline Heins, of Castle Rock, Colo., James (Marilyn) Heins, of Greenville, N.C., Joanne Heins, M.D., of Black River Falls, Wis., and Patrick ?Marty? (Amy) Heins, of Greenville, N.C.; five greatgrandchildren, nine stepgreat-grandchildren and three stepgreat-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Leonard Esmonde; a brother, La Verne Sherrick; and two sisters, Clara Sherrick and Martha Esmonde. Services will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. William Cronk will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with a graveside veterans service by VFW Post 1275. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, where a Masonic service will be held at 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Westside United Methodist Church.
