HARVEY CHAFFINS, 85, died at 2:35 a.m. Sept. 9, 2005 at St. Rita's Medical Center. He was born July 2, 1920, in Knott County, Ky., to Allen and Elifair Hicks Chaffins, who preceded him in death. On Jan. 22, 1941, in Kentucky, he married Nova Branham, who survives in Lima. Mr. Chaffins was a production foreman at Ohio Decorative Products, Spencerville. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church, where he was active, having been a past deacon. He was an avid fisherman, loved gardening and was very devoted to his family. Survivors also include two sons, Gary (Pam) Chaffins of Lima and Larry (Jody) Chaffins of Palestine, Texas; three daughters, Phyllis (Russell) Laman of Lima, Percilla Hicks of Overland Park, Kansas, and Michelle (Barry) Sprague of Lima; a son-in-law, Elmer Wicker of Harrod; two brothers, Cletus (Joanne) Chaffins of Belding, Mich., and Marcus Chaffins of Lima; a sister, Vonda Jean (Woodrow) Shepherd of Avilla, Ind.; a sister-in-law, Linda Sue Chaffins of Lima; 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Loretta Wicker; a brother, Dewey Chaffins; a grandson, Anthony Chaffins; a brother and his wife, Ivan and Ruby Chaffins; three sisters and their husbands, Ethel and Lester Collins, Florence and Hayden Crager and Genevive and Doug Prater; and a sister-in-law, Madeline Chaffins. Services will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at Grace Baptist Church. Pastor Matthew Oliver will officiate. Burial will be in Salem Mennonite Cemetery, Elida. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Monday at Grace Baptist Church.
