Homer Bowers

HOMER C. BOWERS, 82, died at 4:50 a.m. May 24, 2005, at St. Rita's Medical Center. He was born September 25, 1922, in Spencerville, Ohio to John W. and Mary Ellen Brown Bowers, who preceded him in death. On August 19, 1939, in Decatur, Indiana, he married Leota M. Curl, who survives in Cridersville, Ohio. Mr. Bowers retired in 1984 as an engineering supervisor from Westinghouse Electric Corp., after 45 years. He was a member of First Mennonite Church and Lima Mennonite Church. He was a member of the Free & Accepted Masons. He was a Navy veteran serving from March 3, 1945, to March 5, 1946. He was an avid baseball fan and had coached for several years. Survivors also include three sons, Gary (Alice) Bowers of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Dennis (Bonnita) Bowers of Newark, Ohio and David (Carol) Bowers of Virginia Beach, Virginia; two daughters, Karen (Richard) Emerick of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Joanne (Jamey) Truex of Harrod, Ohio; a brother, Don (Gloria) Bowers of Elida, Ohio; three sisters, Florence Caywood of St. Marys, Ohio, Helen Zimmerman of Delaware, Ohio, and Lois (James) Parlette of Cridersville, Ohio; and 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Wesley Bowers, Dale Bowers and Robert Bowers; and four sisters, Sylvia Richardson, Marjorie Page and two infants. Services will begin at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. Terry Ayers will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the activity fund at Otterbein-Cridersville or the charity of the donor's choice.
