Homer Jennings Loftis Jr., 86, of Lima, passed away on Sunday, May 28, 2017 at St. Rita's Medical Center.
On February 8, 1931 he was born in Dayton, Ohio to the late Homer Jennings Sr. and Evelyn {Frausnaugh} Loftis. On March 16, 1952, in Lancaster, OH, he married Meredith H. Harmany who survives in Lima.
He is also survived by his daughters Merriel (Kirk) Miller of Lebanon, OH and Brienne Loftis of Plano, TX, sons Scott (Pam) Loftis of Terrell, TX, Alan (Kay) Loftis of Elida, OH, and Grant (Pam) Loftis of Lafayette, OH, 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, brother Roger (Nancy) Loftis of Melbourne, FL, a sister Mary Anne (Mark) Anderson of Jackson, OH and a step-mother Mary Margaret Loftis of Jackson, OH.
Homer graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in accounting and was also involved in their ROTC program. He became a CPA and also served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked for the 495th Triple A Missile Battalion and helped make the first American operational missile, but it was never used in battle. He was a member of Lafayette Methodist Church, and served as president of the board until recently.
His family will receive friends on Thursday, June 1, 2017 from 6-8PM at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, OH. A funeral service will begin on Friday, June 2, 2017 at 11AM at the funeral home. Pastor Bob Clinger will officiate. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Lima, OH.
