HOWARD VERNON HOWBERT, 81, died at 9:05 p.m. April 11, 2006, at Beverly Health Care. He was born April 12, 1924, in Waynesfield, Ohio to Clarence W. and Cecil M. Wykel Howbert, who preceded him in death. On August 5, 1961, he married Mary Plunkett, who died September 26, 2001. Mr. Howbert retired from Countrymark, after 40 years. He was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275. He was an Army veteran serving from March 7, 1945, to December 6, 1946. Survivors include two daughters, Tami (Mike) Thomas of Lima, Ohio and Carolyn (Robert) Tobin of Eustis, Florida; two sisters, Patricia Siebert of Dayton, Ohio and Amy Casto of Lima, Ohio; three brothers, Glenn (Esther) Howbert of Citra, Florida, Harry (Dottie) Howbert of Fort Jennings, Ohio and Kermit (Debbie) Howbert of Lima, Ohio; and two grandsons, Justin Thomas and Josh Thomas. He was preceded in death by a son, Howard "Butch" Howbert Jr.; a sister, Donna McGue; and a brother, Brice Howbert. Services will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. Father Steve Blum will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites by VFW Post 1275. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and one hour prior to services Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shawnee Band Boosters.
