Hubert Powell

HUBERT "GOOSE" M. POWELL, 88, died at 7:15 p.m. March 30, 2007, at Lima Convalescent Home. He was born Aug. 4, 1918, in Delphos to Ceryl D. and Anna Kathryn Friemoth Powell, who preceded him in death. On June 26, 1954, in Delphos he married Thalia P. Chiles, who died May 3, 2002. Mr. Powell worked for Superior Coach and Sheller Globe as its personnel director. He served in the U.S. Army as a tech sergeant with the 82nd Division, 98th Division, and 2nd and 8th Army Headquarters Pacific Theatre from 1942 to 1945. He was a member of the Industrial Relations Department, Sheller Globe Corp. (Superior Coach) from 1941 to 1984. He was a member of Superior's 25 Year Club and past president of Lima St. Johns Grade School and Lima Central Catholic board of education. He was past president of Lima Personnel Association, a member of American Legion Post 96 in Lima and American Legion Post 62 in Sun City, Ariz. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus in Lima and Sun City, Ariz., Sun City Senior Center, and a member of the Ohio and Arizona Polka Boosters Clubs. He was a lifelong fan of the Cincinnati Reds and Notre Dame. Survivors include a son, Ronald L. (Cindy) Powell, of Farmington Hills, Mich.; a daughter, Kathy (Richard) Robinson, of Lima; a son, Gary E. (Susan Bartles) Powell, of Cincinnati; a daughter, Nancy M. (Randall) Longbottom, of Cincinnati;and Nicholas Longbottom, of Cincinnati; and a special friend, Ellie Vedder, of Sun City, Ariz. He was preceded in death by a great-grandchild, Samantha Paige Moore; a sister, Evelyn Pitsenbarger; and two brothers Charles "Bud" and Norman "Si" Powell. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Delphos. The Rev. Melvin Verhoff and the Rev. Douglas Adams will officiate. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Delphos, with graveside military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Chamberlain-Huckerieded Funeral Home. A wake service will begin at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
