Ida, was a wonderful, loving wife, mother, Nonna, sister, aunt, niece and a very devoted friend. She lived her first 24 years in a small town in Italy. She lived with her parents and 4 sisters and 3 brothers on a farm, in a small 2 bedroom house that had no running water. At age 25, she moved to Canada with some family members in search of a better life. There she lived with over 15 of her extended family members in the same house. She had very fond memories of this time in her life. She obtained a job working at a paper factory for 25 cents/hour and soon showed her great work ethic by being promoted.
She met her husband, Joe in 1962 and they were married a year later. She moved to the United States in August of 1963. This was a challenging time for her since she could not speak English. Ida, however, continued to stay close to her families in Italy and Canada, by correspondence and yearly vacations to Canada. She was a wonderful mother, homemaker and the consummate host. No one ever left her house hungry. She loved to volunteer at St. Gerard's school and the church and did so for many years. She also had a passion for her family, friends, gardening, flowers and photography.
The family will receive friends from 3 pm - 7 pm with a rosary said at 7 pm. on Friday, February 10, 2017, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home (www.chamberlainhuckeriede.com), 920 N. Cable Road, Lima, Ohio 45805.
