I. Virgil Fazel

Ira Virgil Fazel, 96, passed away at 1:48 p.m. on Monday, July 25, 2022, at Lima Memorial Health System.

Virgil was born on July 16, 1926 in Twin Bluff, Wisconsin, to Lester Thomas and Elsie Loretta (Williams) Fazel.  On August 21, 1948 he married the love of his life, Charlene Marilla (Hoffman) Fazel, who survives in Lima.

Virgil proudly served in the Navy during WW2 aboard the “Arenac” from July, 1944 to June, 1946.  He was a Coxswain on an LCV that landed the brave troops that stormed Normandy.  After the service he came home and worked for D.T.& I. Railroad until retiring.  He also worked for both Siferd and Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Homes and was loved by all.  Virgil was a member of Lima Lodge 205 and a past member and past Master of Ft. Amanda Lodge 706.  He was a former member of the Lima Lions Club, and Life Member of the American Legion Post 96.  He was also a Life Member of VFW Post 1275, and participated in their Veteran Funeral Detail for many, many years.  He was a member of Starlight Club, AARP, Lima Chapter #49 Masonic and Lima Council #20 Masonic.

Virgil leaves behind his wife Charlene of 73 years,  he is also survived by his son, Dale (Pam) Fazel; daughters, Dena (Peter) Heighton and Virginia (Mark) Bohn; daughter-in-law, Marie Fazel; grandchildren: Ryan (Courtney) Fazel, Melissa Anderson Mitchell, Aaron Anderson, Seth Anderson, Brittany Bohn, Jesse (Andrea) Crawford and Leanne Crawford; step-grandchildren, Krista (Bryan) Payne and Robert (Miranda) McClintock; twenty-five great-grandchildren; sister, Agnes Degen; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents; son, Mark Fazel; grandson, Douglas Sproull; step-grandchildren, Ashley (Chad) Bridges and Michael Heighton; sisters: Vivian (Roger) Thorington, Dawnene Fazel and Jeneva (Gene) Wirey; brothers, Byron Fazel and Gilbert Fazel; and brother-in-law, Lewis Degen.

The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 31, 2022 at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio with a Masonic Service at 6 p.m.  The funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 1, 2022 at the funeral home.  Pastor Andrew Shields will officiate.  Entombment will be at Memorial Park Mausoleum with Graveside Military Honors by VFW Post 1275.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, Lima or the Starlight Club.
