Jack R. Centers, 78, died at 12:10 p.m. November 20, 2008, at St. Rita?s Medical Center. He was born January 13, 1930, in Estill, Kentucky, to Sherman J. and Rebecca Mosley Centers, who preceded him in death. On October 9, 1961, he married Sherran F. Jones, who died August 20, 1998. Mr. Centers retired in 1994 as a building foreman from United-Sprint Telephone Co., after 27 years. He was a member of Gomer United Church of Christ, where he served on the board of trustees and the board of deacons. He was a member of the Lima Area Telephone Pioneers, where he volunteered as a bingo caller for several years at the Villa at Baton Rouge Senior Health Services Community. He enjoyed doing landscape paintings and woodworking. Survivors include three sons, Larry (Darlene) Centers, of Sun Rise Beach, Missouri, and Ronnie (Nancy) Centers and Jack (Jane) Centers, both of Lima, Ohio; and nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by nine siblings, Phyllis Hefner, Dalman Centers, Frank Centers, George Centers, Jimmy Centers, Paul Centers and Jennings Centers, Peggy Stelmack and Pansy Goble. Services will begin at 2 p.m. Monday at Gomer United Church of Christ. The Rev. Brian Knoderer will officiate. Burial will be in Pike Run Cemetery, Gomer, Ohio. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home.
