He was born in Latty, Ohio on August 25, 1916 to Charles and Grace (Thompson) Wetherill. After his mother Grace became a victim of the Spanish Flu epidemic in 1918, he was raised by Dan and Amy Ridenour at 333 S. Prospect in Lima. His father Charles retired from the Nickel Plate Railroad.
A special cousin, Nelle Ridenour mentored Jack through his school years until he graduated from South High in 1934. As a senior he served as class president. Also, in that class, was Beulah Klingler, who later introduced Jack to her cousin and his late wife, Auda McPheron, of Harrod.
He is survived by his son Andy (Donna) Wetherill and his granddaughters Amy and Julie who live in Pendleton and Astoria, Oregon respectively.
He also has three great grandchildren. Locally he is survived by a niece, Shirley Newland and her family in the Shawnee area, another niece in Kentucky, several nephews, and a family friend and former neighbor Bonnie Snyder.
Jack was one of four brothers and two sisters, who all preceded him in death.
Jack served in the US Army Air Corp as a weather forecaster and eventually completed flight training. He and Auda lived in several locales during his service years.
Upon returning to Lima after the war he worked at the Lima Post Office. After a short stint at the Sohio Refinery he established a career with the Allen County Engineer's office where he retired after 24 years.
He was a member of the former West Elm United Church of Christ. Trinity United Methodist later became his church home.
An avid reader of travel and historical texts he often mentioned a book titled Mere Christianity. His passion was classical Christian music.
