James Allen Clapper

James Allen Clapper, 91, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ at 9:05 p.m. on Wednesday, February 13, 2019, at Lima Memorial Hospital Emergency Room.

James was born on Thursday, September 8, 1927, in Lima, Ohio, to the late Marion Duane and Mabel Delores (Gast) Clapper.  On Wednesday, December 25, 1946, he married Clara Louise (Mathews) Clapper, who preceded him in death on December 8, 2016.

James was a WWII Navy Veteran and worked as a Maintenance Superintendent at the Lima Refinery/Standard Oil.  He was a member of Lima Baptist Temple, where he served as a past deacon, trustee, and a sponsor for the Challengers class.  He was a member of the Master Builders Sunday school class.  Previously he was a member at Rousculp Church of Christ.  He was also an avid fisherman.

He  is survived by three sons: Steven R. (Linda) Clapper of  Lima, OH, Craig A. (Jan) Clapper of South Bend, IN and Mark D. (Libby) Clapper of Cary, NC, a daughter, Jamie Protsman of Lima, OH, eight grandchildren: Scott, Mindy, Jeremiah, Shellie, Eric, Rachel, Kirstin and Jonathan, twenty-three great-grandchildren, and brother, Robert (Fran) Clapper of Houston, TX.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, parents, son-in-law Dan Protsman, sister, Margaret Joanne Kerr, and three brother-in-laws: Max Mathews, Rex Mathews, and Virgil Kerr.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 17, 2019 at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio.   A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m.  on Monday, February 18, 2019 at Lima Baptist Temple, 982 Brower Rd., Lima with visitation one hour prior to service .  Reverend Craig Clapper officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima.  Military honors will be held by VFW Post 1275.
