James A. Hoff, 80, died at 8:44 p.m. July 8, 2009, at Lima Memorial Health System. He was born February 2, 1929, in Lima, Ohio to Alfred and Helen Maurer Hoff, who preceded him in death. On June 11, 1954, he married Ruth Boedecker, who survives in Lima, Ohio. Mr. Hoff retired after 25 years as principal of the middle school at Lincolnview North. He also taught and was principal at York Local School. Following his retirement, he worked part-time at Siferd Funeral Home for several years. He was a 1947 graduate of Lima Central High School, where he was a member of its 1946 state football championship team. He received his bachelor?s degree in education in 1956 from Ohio Northern University and his master?s degree in 1965 from St. Francis College, Fort Wayne, Ind. He was a member of First Evangelical & Reformed Church. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 370 and American Legion Post 96. He loved all sports and fishing. He loved his grandchildren and watching their sports activities. He was an Army veteran serving from November 16, 1950, to October 28, 1952. Survivors also include two sons, Kurt (Christine) Hoff, of Lima, Ohio, and Douglas (Nancy) Hoff, of Madbury, New Hampshire; a daughter, Becky (Gene) McHugh, of Columbus, Ohio; and nine grandchildren, Rachel Hoff, Kelsey Hoff, Trevor Hoff, Nathan Hoff, Becca Hoff, Patrick McHugh, Ryan McHugh, Learin McHugh and Shea McHugh. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Kae Hoff. Services will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Evangelical & Reformed Church. Pastor Ed Rinehart will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to First Evangelical & Reformed Church.
