76, died at 10:23 AM on Sunday, January 24, 2016, at his residence in Elida, Ohio.
James was born on August 19, 1939, in Bradford, Ohio, and was the adopted son of the late Jess and Lucille (Kitchen) Lewis Cheney
James married Sandy Sodders on February 28, 1979, who survives in Elida. He was in the Marines from 1956 to 1958 and served in Lebanon. He retired from Teledyne after 20 years and then became custodian for Elida Schools for 15 years. He was a member of the Immanuel United Methodist Church in Elida. He was also a life member of the VFW #1275, the Allen County Senior Citizens and he volunteered at Our Daily Bread.
He is survived by three sons, James Alan (Cheryl) Lewis, Jeffrey Lynn (Liz) Lewis, and Timothy Stewart (Billi Jo) Lewis, all of Lima, OH; a step daughter, Kelly Lynn (Brian) Radanovich, of Springfield, OH, eight grandchildren Shannon Lewis, Chaz Lewis, Vannessa Lewis; James Lewis, Jessica Lewis, Jeffrey Lewis Jr, Tabitha Lewis, and Samantha Lewis, four step grandchildren, Ashley (Sean) Walter, Nick Radanovich, Ashley Maag and Katy Maag; four great grandchildren; two brothers, James (Betty) Springer, of Kettering , OH, and Gary (Mai) Lewis, of FL; a sister-in-law, Janet (Gary) Grigg, of Elida, OH.
He was preceded in death by, a stepson, Jeff Jacobs; a brother, Larry (Marie) Lewis and a half brother, Pete (Leona) Thompson.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home in Lima, Ohio.
A funeral service will begin at 10:30 AM on Friday, January 29, 2016 at Immanuel United Methodist Church, Elida, Ohio. Rev. Bruce Tumblin will officiate.
Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Elida, Ohio with graveside military honors conducted by VFW # 1275.
