James Mauk,

September 27, 1925 — February 23, 2006

JAMES LEROY MAUK Sr., 80, died at 1:45 p.m. February 23, 2006, at Springview Manor Nursing Home. He was born September 27, 1925, in Lima, Ohio to Harry Eldon and Sarah Edith Densmore Mauk, who preceded him in death. On June 7, 1946, he married Mildred Iva Leffler, who preceded him in death. Mr. Mauk retired from the Ford Motor Co. Lima Engine Plant. He was a member of Sugar Creek Church of the Brethren. He enjoyed coaching baseball and led two teams to state championships in 1966 and 1967. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving from December 9, 1943, to February 2, 1950, and received the American Theater Ribbon, the Asia/Pacific Campaign Medal, with two bronze stars, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, with one bronze star, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He loved to bowl and pitch horse shoes. Survivors include four children, Saundra Kay Mauk (Harry) Davis, James L. (Frances) Mauk Jr., Brian L. (Eva) Mauk and Rochelle A. (Frazee) Mauk, all of Lima, Ohio; three sisters, Albertha Mauk Stiles, Betty Mauk Placie and Thelma Mauk Frail, all of Lima, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, Harry L. Davis Jr., James A. Davis, Brian J. Davis, Scott A. Mauk, Amy R. Grigsby, Brian L. Mauk Jr., Bobby Mauk, Justin Holt, Audrey Clark and Danielle Frazee; eight great-grandchildren, Jenna Davis, Logan Davis, Jared Davis, Devan Grigsby, Derek Grigsby, Alexandria Davis, Dylan Grigsby and Rachel Clark; and his good, close friend, Helen Thomas. He was preceded in death by a grandchild, Traci L. Davis; and 10 siblings, Raymond Mauk, Irma Mauk Bolender and William Mauk, Carey Mauk, Francis Mauk, Harold Mauk, Fred Mauk, Carl Mauk, Richard Mauk and Gene Mauk. Services will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. Pastor Marty Moyer will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today and 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
