James H. Schwabero

James H. Schwabero, 74, passed away unexpectantly at 3:22 p.m. on Tuesday, February 23, 2021, at Shawnee Manor Nursing Home.

James was born on February 5, 1947, in Lima, Ohio, to Roger and Betty (Newhouse) Schwabero.  On August, 22, 1970 he married Mila (Barrick) Schwabero who survives in Lima.  They were married over 50 years.

James was a 1967 graduate of New Knoxville High School and Ohio Northern University receiving his teaching degree.  He was both a teacher and coach for Lima City Schools for over 30 years.  James was a member and past president of St. Lukes Lutheran Church and the Allen County Retired Teachers.  He served 6 years on the Council of the Northwest Ohio Synod of The Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. He was a member of Ft. Shawnee Lions Club and currently serving on the Board of The Carlton House.  He was a calm person and a gentle leader.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Rev. Eileen Louise (Rev. Steven) Woyen of Albert Lea, MN; two grandchildren, Jacobi and Martin Woyen; sister, Lois Metzger of New Knoxville, OH; sister-in-law, Christina Creeger; and several nieces and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Dan Metzger; and brother-in-law, Tom Creeger.

A private family memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 28th at St. Lukes Lutheran Church.  Rev. Art Wilde will officiate.  Live streaming of the service will be available on the Chamberlain-Huckeriede Facebook page.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Lukes Seminarian Fund.
