James Shockley

James A. ?Jim? Shockley 88, died at 7:22 a.m. July 17, 2009, at his residence. He was born June 26, 1921, in Mount Sterling, Ohio to A.V. and Virgia Sollars Shockley, who preceded him in death. On August 1, 1950, in Mount Sterling, he married Marjorie A. Skinner who preceded him in death. Mr. Shockley retired in 1989 after 42 years in the insurance business, the last 35 with Webb Insurance Agency. He was Army veteran of War World II, serving from May 1, 1944, to June 30, 1946. He was past president and board member of the Lima Jaycees, receiving the Outstanding Jaycee Award in 1955-56. He was past president and board member of the Lima Allen County Insurance Association, past president and board member of the Greater Lima Downtown Association and past president and board member of the Association of Risk Managers of Ohio. He was a life member of CPCA Society. He was a past board member of Grand Lake CPCA. He was a life member of the Lima Noon Optimist Club and Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 54. He was a member of American Legion Post 96, FOP Associates, Shawnee United Methodist Church, Shawnee Country Club, Pheasants Forever, Ducks Unlimited, Lima Sertoma Club and Sertoma International Gold Honor Club. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, gardening and playing golf. Survivors include a niece, Susan (Roger) Shryock, of London, Ohio, and a nephew, Ron (Anita) Carmack, of Erlanger, Kentucky. He was preceded in death by a brother, William L. Shockley. Services will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. Burial will be in Shawnee Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 740 Commerce Drive, Suite B, Perrysburg, OH 43551, or to the charity of the donor?s choice.
