James W. Stalter 79, died at 8:15 p.m. July 28, 2007, at Lima Manor Nursing Home. He was born July 5, 1928, in Lima, Ohio to Willard Gale Stalter and Rozella Pauline John Stalter, who preceded him in death. Mr. Stalter was a supervisor at Ex-Cell-O/Textron for 31 years. He was a member of the U.S. Navy from 1946 to 1951. He was then a member of the U.S. Naval Reserve for 11 years. He joined the Army National Guard in 1962 and retired in 1984. He served on the USS Valley Forge CV-45. He served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater for one year. He was a member of the Japanese occupation forces for one year. He earned the Navy Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal and two Korean War medals. He had been a Junior Achievement adviser for two years in Lima. He was a member of the Elida Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years. He was a member of St. Paul?s United Methodist Church in Elida. He was a a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 370, and Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 54, all in Lima. Survivors include three daughters, Kimberly (Jack) Miller, of Columbus Grove, Ohio, Kyle (Michael) Mariner, of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Nancy (Michael) Ferguson, of Lima, Ohio; five grandchildren, Jessica Miller, of Bowling Green, Ohio, Brad Curtis, of Indianapolis, Indiana, Lance Curtis, of Indianapolis, Indiana, Jocelyn (Roger) Keysor, of Lima, Ohio, and Kaila (Jon) Williams, of Spencerville, Ohio; three great-granddaughters; a great-great-granddaughter; a sister, Marallyn Metzger, of Surprise, Arizona; a brother, Tom (Janet) Stalter, of Elida, Ohio; and special companion of five years, Ina Suever, of Lima, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his sister, Janet Sue Stalter. Services will begin at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. Military Service conducted by VFW Post 1275 will follow the funeral service at the funeral home. The Rev. Neal Whitney will officiate. Burial will be at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs National Cemetery in Dayton at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
