James "Jerry" Bernard Smith

James “Jerry” Bernard Smith, 76, passed away at 7:34 p.m. on June 7, 2023, at Mercy Health St. Rita’s in Lima.

Jerry was born on April 27, 1947, in Lima, Ohio, to the late Bernard and Norma (Eickholt) Smith.  On October 15, 1971, he married Patricia (Ricker) Smith, who survives in Lima.

Jerry graduated from Lima Central Catholic High School and went on to earn his Associates Degree from Northwestern Business College.  He served in the U.S. Air Force during Vietnam.  Jerry retired from General Dynamics, where he worked in the office.  He enjoyed playing cards, and especially enjoyed watching his grandkids play sports.  He was a great supporter of LCC football and basketball.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Holly (Cleadous) Hawk; grandchildren: Brandon (Maria) Cottrell, Hunter (Payton) Hawk, Sydnee Hawk and Carson Hawk; great-grandchildren, Quinn Cottrell and Madilyn Cottrell; and siblings: John (Janet) Smith, Joyce (Eugene) Gable, Janice (Thomas) Langhals and Richard (Pati) Smith.

A Memorial Mass at St. Charles Catholic Church will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to LCC Athletics.
