James Mitchell “Jim” McCluer, 73 of Lima passed away on Friday, October 19, 2018 at 5:49 A.M. at St. Rita’s Medical Center of Sudden Cardiac Arrest. Jim had been fighting the good fight since 2015 courageously battling cancer.
Jim was born January 27, 1945 to Herbert and Vivetta (Garver) McCluer who preceded him in death. On February 22, 1964 at St. Gerard’s Catholic Church he married Cynthia Ann Sciranka who survives in Lima Ohio. This coming February would have been their 55th wedding anniversary.
Also surviving are his daughter Leslie Ann Schuh of Lima Ohio and his son Dr. Craig Anthony McCluer and daughter-in-law Dr. Susan Sabers McCluer of San Antonio , Texas. His grandchildren, CeCelia Ann Schuh of Columbus, Ohio and Anthony John Schuh of Lima, Ohio. His son-in-law John Schuh survives in Mebane, North Carolina.
Also surviving are a sister-in-law Connie McCluer and brother David (Cecily) McCluer, brother-in-law James McBeth, sister Jackie Lyons, sister Deborah (Richard) Gresham and sister Beverly (Mike) Wilges. His wife’s sister and brother-in-law John and Marcia Mooney and Michael and Shirley Sciranka Jr., also many numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jims was preceded in death by one brother Herbert Lynn McCluer and two sisters Shirley Mcbeth and Sharon Weldy.
Each morning Jim would set his alarm in preparation for heading to the Eagles which he fondly called “The Office”. His card playing buddies were close to his heart. Jim also loved going to the Kewpee West for his Kewpee coffee and to tease and harass the Kewpee girls. He was an avid Cincinnati Reds and Ohio State Buckeye fan. As his children attended Elida he was a Bulldog fan-attending the Friday night games. Being a “Cheer Advisor and Driver” for his daughter and her friends. His son played in local bands and he took pride in visiting the local establishments to hear them play. When his grandchildren attended Spencerville he soon became a BearCat Fan. From watching his granddaughter cheer and his grandson play football under the Friday night lights he always had to have a good hot dog and a bag of popcorn. Being a member of Sherwood Park Pool he thought he was the honorary Life Guard/Manager. It was his favorite summer hang out to swim and tan.
Most of Jim’s adult life he had worked for Teledyne Ohio Steel until their closing. Then securing a job at Honda of America Anna Plant. He retired in June of 2014.
Jim was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church and also a Eucharistic Minister. He also was a member of the Eagles #370 Lima and Sherwood Park Community Pool and Club. He and his wife Cynthia enjoyed many years of traveling-Las Vegas, Caribbean, San Francisco, New York, Texas and many bus tours with Choice Travel.
Viewing will be Friday, October 26, 2018 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a sharing of memories to begin at 7:30 p.m. at Chamberlain Huckeriede Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be at St. Charles Catholic Church Saturday, October 27, 2018 at 11:00 A.M.
Entombment will be in Gethsemani Mausoleum, Lima, Ohio.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Floral Fund at St. Charles Catholic Church, 2200 W. Elm St., Lima, Ohio 45805-In Jim’s Name and Memory.
Jim was an outgoing fun loving person never knowing a stranger. He lived for the moment. He will be sadly missed each and every day.
