Jan Garner Miller 60, of Fort Myers Beach, Florida, formerly of Elida, Ohio, died at 2:19 p.m. November 24, 2009, at Lee Memorial Health Park, Fort Myers, Florida. He was born September 1, 1949, in Lima, Ohio to Foster B. and Ruth P. Carr Miller, who preceded him in death. He formerly was married to Cheryl Brenneman, who survives. Mr. Miller graduated from Elida High School in 1967 and from The Ohio State University in 1972 with a bachelor?s degree in agriculture education. He went on to obtain a master?s degree from The Ohio State University. He was a member of Lima Baptist Temple. He was a drummer in the Elida High School marching band. He was instrumental in starting the Elida Alumni Band and was owner and teacher of the Drum Pad Music Store, in Lima, Ohio. He was state treasurer of the Future Farmers of America. He was an original member of the local band Penjendrum. He was a teacher at Wapakoneta High School from 1973 to 1978, had worked at Baldwin Piano Co. Agriculture Leasing Division, Cincinnati. He was employed as a financial planner for IDS American Express with an office in Delphos, Ohio. He was a staff member at Ohio Farmers Union, Ottawa, Ohio. He worked for 10 years with Captain J.P. Cruises of Fort Myers, Florida, and Troy, N.Y. as a photographer and disc jockey. He was working as a photographer and disc jockey in Fort Myers Beach, Florida, at the time of his death. Survivors also include two sons, Chad M. (Betty King) Miller, of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Trevor Miller, of Columbus, Ohio; a grandchild, Zoe Annelyn Miller; a sister, Marlene Edwards, of Lima, Ohio; a brother, Max (Jeannette) Miller, of Loveland; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Robert Edwards. Services will begin at 1 p.m. Monday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. Neal Whitney will officiate. Burial will be in Allentown Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
