Emblem

Janet Ann Skinner, 82, passed on Saturday, September 14, 2024. She was born February 17, 1942 in Lima, Ohio to Leo and Regina (Metzger) Brinkman, who both preceded her in death. On August 17, 1963 she married the love of her life, John D. Skinner at St. Gerard Catholic Church, who preceded her in death in 2003.

Janet is survived by her daughter, Rhonda (Luke) Stechschulte, and three sons, Timothy (Carrie), James (Patsy), and Alexander (Kelly) Skinner, all of Lima; 9 grandchildren Danielle (Jacob) Wilkin, Ryan Stechschulte, Mitchell (Kirsten Schulte) Skinner, Ben Stechschulte, Makenzie (Alex Hudson) Skinner, Samantha Stechschulte, Emma Skinner, Owen Skinner, and Ophelia Skinner; and 2 great-grandchildren, Eli and Grant Wilkin. She is also survived by her sister JoAnn (David) Szippl, brother-in-law Steve Smith, and her beloved nieces and nephews.

Janet was preceded in death by her sister Mary Smith, and brothers and sisters-in-law Art and Mary Brinkman, and John and Kaylene Brinkman. She was also preceded in death by her in-laws, Colonel Owen (Pete) and Patricia Skinner, and James and Janet Frey.

Janet was a graduate of Lima Central Catholic High School in 1960.Together with her husband, John, they founded Armor Fire Protection Company in 1992. Janet was a lifetime member of St. Rose Catholic Church and worked at the school when her children attended there, as well as volunteering in the lunchroom upon retirement. Janet enjoyed a good crossword, finding a great book, and camping with her family, especially at Silver Springs Campground. She was an excellent tennis player and enjoyed watching the professionals almost as much as her grandchildren.

Janet will be remembered for her infectious laugh, witty sense of humor, and dig-in-her-heels nature. She was happiest while at the beach or chatting with her family poolside. Her family was always her top priority. She was the first to celebrate an accomplishment, the first to offer a shoulder to cry on, and the first to slip you an extra $10 for gas money (just in case!).

Her grandchildren will be eternally grateful to Janet for gifting them the opportunity to create lasting relationships with their cousins. Whether it be at the pool, on family vacations, at dinners at La Charreda, during family celebrations – she fostered memories that have created the relationships that will serve as her legacy.

The family will receive friends from 2 pm to 4 pm and 6 pm to 8 pm on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio. The funeral service will begin at 10 am on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at St. Rose Catholic Church. Fr. Mike Sergi will officiate. Burial will follow at Gethsemani Cemetery, Lima.
