Jerry L. Hartzog,
70 of Lima, Ohio died on Wednesday, September 14, 2011, at Triumph Hospital, Lima, Ohio in Lima, Ohio.
Born Friday, August 29, 1941 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was the husband of June Gonya Hartzog. His mother Helen Elizabeth (Coffman) Hartzog Jackson survives in Lima.
Jerry married June Gonya on June 27, 1959 in Lima, Ohio. She survives. He worked for the Ford Motor Company in Lima and was a union representative at Ford Motor for 21 years. Along with working at the Ford Motor Company he was a Bath Township Constable, and a volunteer Fire Fighter. He also worked for the Jackson Repair, Jackson's Trenching and Jackson's Poultry Farm. In previous years he also worked the gun shows as a security guard. He was a member of the Lima Eagles Aerie #370 and the Ford Local Retirees #1219. He loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed teasing and joking with folks, and he always had a smile on his face and a wink in his eye.
Surviving are: sons, Kerry Hartzog of Lima, OH and Kenneth (Marti) Hartzog of Yorktown, VA; a brother, Harry (Martha) Hartzog of Elida, OH.; a grandson Josh Hartzog; a granddaughter Abby Hartzog; and a grandson Nathan Hartzog. Also surviving is a special nephew, Terry (Rose) Hartzog, of Lima, Ohio; a brother-in-law Kenneth (Floella) Gonya, of Frenchlick, Indiana; a special Aunt, Darlene Coffman; and several nephews, nieces and cousins.
He was predeceased by son, Kevin Hartzog; step-father, Paul W. Jackson; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lawrence and Maxine Gonya; four uncles, Virgil Coffman, Robert Coffman, James Coffman, Charles Jackson; and three aunts, June Coffman, Vivian Snook, and Reva Jackson.
A Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Monday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home with the Rev. Ed. Rhinehart and Chaplain James Fast officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima, OH.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Saturday, September 17, 2011, and 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Sunday, September 18, 2011 at the Chamberlain - Huckeriede Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be sent to Allen County Council on Aging, 215 N. Central Avenue, Lima, OH 45801.
