Jerry C. Smith,
69 of Elida, Ohio died on Saturday, April 7, 2012, 6:08P.M. at his residence.
Born Monday, February 1, 1943 in Lima, Ohio, he was the son of the late Charles H. Smith and the late Mary Jane Cardone Smith.
On January 17, 1985 he married Carolyn Cogswell, she survives in Elida. Mr. Smith was a 1961 graduate of Lima Senior High School. He attended Ohio Northern University. He worked at Scot Lad, Fernstrom Moving Company, and retired from Dana Corp. He was a member of the Elida Community Fire Department for 17 years and participated in the Keystone Kops program. Mr. Smith was an Elida Band Booster for Elida High School and chaperoned numerous band trips for the school. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles #370 and formally served as the Vice President of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles #370. Jerry was a member of the Village of Elida Zoning Council. He was an avid camper and golfer. He enjoyed reading and his little dog, Panda. His trips to the British West Indies were memorable.
Surviving are: a son, Mark (Renee) Smith of Lima; a daughter, Catherine (James) Grothouse of Delphos, OH; a daughter Elaine (Mark) Davis of Harrod, OH; and a daughter Almeta Jones of Lima, OH and a son Randy (Karen) Reed of Waynesfield, OH; a daughter, Wanda Reed of Wapakoneta, OH; a daughter Lisa (Garry) Braun of Wapakoneta, OH and a daughter Dana Reed of Elida, OH; two sisters, Evalynne "Mickey" Smith of Lima, OH and Janet Rose Adkins of Lima, OH; Two sisters-in-law, Paula (David) Hilton, North Kingstown, RI and Marie (Steven) Hollar, Lima, Ohio; many uncles and aunts; many nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Jean Smith; brother-in-law Doyle G. Adkins, son-in-law, Donald E. Dye, Jr., son-in-law, Allen P. Jones; sister-in-law, Sonia Cogswell, and a brother-in-law, Billy Lee Cogswell.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home.
Immediately following visitation, an Eagles Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 P.M. with a funeral service following conducted by the Rev. Charles Obinwa.
