Jo Jones

Dr. Jo M. Jones, 62 of Lima, Ohio, formerly of Columbus, died on Monday, September 10, 2012, at 4:52 A.M. at Lima Memorial Health System in Lima, Ohio.
Born February 3, 1950 in Lima, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Ralph D. Jones and Maxene (Winegardner) Jones.
Jo was an active member of South Side Christian Church where she had served as a deacon and presently as an elder. She also belonged to the Circle of Christian Friends. Jo retired from The Ohio State University after many years of service to Ohio State's Extension Program. Throughout her career she held several positions within Extension including County Home Economics Agent in Union County, Area Home Ec. Agent in Preble County, South West District Home Economics Specialist, State Leader Home Economics, and then completing her career as Associate Director of Extension for Ohio. She also played an instrumental role in the N.E.L.D. (National Extension Leadership Program) in Ohio and worked with other states throughout the U.S.A. helping to develop and strengthen their leadership programs. Jo's first job was teaching Home Economics in the Spencerville School System which attributed to her love for education and working with people. She never met a stranger and her home was always open to students working on undergraduate and/or graduate studies. She graduated from Allen East High School in 1968 and earned both her Bachelor and Master's degrees from The Ohio State University. She then went on to obtain her Doctorate of Education degree from North Carolina State University. Her job with Extension provided Jo with the opportunity to travel abroad and make lifelong friends from all over the world. She had visited Brazil, China, Egypt, Finland, Greece, Norway, Russia and Sweden. Jo had a heart of gold and believed that everyone should give more than they ever expected to receive. She loved volunteering at Coventry Ministries in Lima and working with Dr. Tom Holmes and the other staff members. She also enjoyed reading, spending winters in Florida with her dear friends and doing crossword puzzles and word jumbles. She was a wonderful sister, loving aunt and great-aunt!
Survivors include: a sister, Jackie (Gary) Austin, a brother Randy (Dana) Jones, 5 nephews and a niece
Greg Austin, Jeff (Kristi) Austin, Kelli (Todd) Cosart, Trevor (Keri) Jones, Troy (Sara) Jones and Travis (Leslie) Jones, and 17 great nephews and nieces, Alexsandr Austin, Jackson Austin, Caleb Austin, Mallory Austin, Cole Austin, Marah Austin, Michaela Cosart, Camden Cosart, Caden Jones, Addison Jones, Deacon Jones, Delaney Jones, Olivia Jones, Bryson Jones, Rilynn Jones, Keagan Jones and Declan Jones.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Richard D. Jones, a nephew Todd Jones and a great nephew Zane Cosart.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday at South Side Christian Church with the Revs. Wanda Werking and Douglas Adams officiating.
