Joe Rivers

JOE H. RIVERS, 56, died at 7:22 p.m. October 12, 2006, at St. Rita's Medical Center. He was born October 13, 1949, in Jackson, Mississippi, to Haywood and Velma Craft Rivers, who preceded him in death. He married Marjorie Conley on April 12, 1984. She survives in Lima, Ohio. Mr. Rivers was retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. He was a member of Temple Christian and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275 and American Legion Post 96. He served in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Survivors also include a stepdaughter, Kathy Hicks Brown of Lima, Ohio; stepsons Barry Hicks and Darin L. Hicks, both of Lima, Ohio, and William P. Hicks of Findlay, Ohio; step grandchildren Amanda Hicks of Lima, Ohio, Julius Hicks and Ashley Hicks; step great-grandchildren Tre'me Grisby, A'nasha Grisby, Tinah Grisby and J'Shawn Hicks; and two sisters Ruby (J.W.) Mayes of Florence, Mississippi, and Lina (James) Mayes of Lima, Ohio; and two brothers Willie (Annie) White and James (Gloria) White, both of Lima, Ohio. He was preceded in death by a stepson, Jeffery Michael Hicks; a stepdaughter, Marci Hicks; three step grandchildren, Artoris Rondale Hicks, Natoris Mardale Hicks and Datoris Shawndale Hicks; sisters Willie Mae Douglas, Essie Lee White, Grace Lewis, Gladys Mayes and Velma Bullock; and brothers Eugene Rivers, Johnnie White, Paul White, Samuel Bullock and Sylvester White. Services will begin at 1 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Keith Hamblen will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
