John C. Dodge

November 10, 1946 — September 14, 2018

Lima

John C. Dodge 71, of Lima, went to be with his heavenly Father on Friday, September 14, 2018 at 9:55 p.m. in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 10, 1946 in Lima, Ohio to Garrold Dodge and Edna Oswald- Dodge who have preceded him in death along with a sister Sue Burton, and 2 special loving stepmothers Mary Mulcahy-Dodge and Mickie Roberts-Dodge. On May 12, 1967 he married Linda Gorman who survives in Lima, Ohio.

Mr. Dodge was a very loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend. He retired in March of 2001 from Scot Lad Foods after 30 years of service. He was a member of St. Gerard’s Catholic Church. He was an Air Force Vietnam Veteran serving as a medic and was later honorably discharged as a sergeant. He was also a member of the Moose and a former member of Fraternal Order of Eagles and VFW. John enjoyed playing golf on the course and online, camping, mowing and planting beautiful flowers for all to enjoy. When he was no longer able to plant flowers, God blessed him with some beautiful petunia pots that John and Linda referred to as their “Miracle Flowers”. He was an avid Fighting Irish and Cleveland Browns fan. John lived his life by “loving thy neighbor” and was always willing to lend a helping hand and making time to help anyone in need.  Throughout his 3 year battle, he never lost his sense of humor or wit.

Survivors include a daughter Teresa (Damon) Cook of Ft. Worth, TX, a son Todd (Kristie) Dodge of Meridian, MS, six grandchildren: Katrina, Kaliana, Damon Jr., Dasha, De’Adrean, Skyy, and Jonathan, four great-grandchildren: Xavier, Taleah, Zerian, and Zayden, brothers-in-law William (Elaine) Gorman and Ronnie Burton,  and sister-in-law Rose (Tom) deceased Gorman. He is also survived by many “cherished” nieces and nephews as well as special lifelong friends; “Brother” Steve (Pal) and Karen Ferguson, Bob and Tricia Herbst,  Yvette (special daughter) and Todd Gordon,  Winnie Sue and Tom Booth, and Bob and Carole Maenle.

Jim Szobonya will officiate. A graveside service will be on Friday, September 21, 2018 at 2pm at Gethsemani Cemetery, Lima, Ohio.
