John J. Feison 90, died at 7:16 p.m. November 15, 2009, at his residence. He was born October 2, 1919, in Lima, Ohio to Vica and Anna Csukina Feison, who preceded him in death. On December 21, 1948, he married Jean J. Hale, who died January 4, 2006. Mr. Feison retired in 1985 as a firefighter and platoon chief of Shawnee Township after 25 years. He was one of the first 10 original full-time firefighters of the newly formed Shawnee Fire Department, starting in 1960. He was an Army veteran of World War II serving with the 819 Engineer Company and was at Utah Beach 3rd hour on D-Day, June 6, 1944. He received the Good Conduct Medal, the Distinguished Unit Badge, the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal and four Bronze Stars. He played the bass fiddle in several area bands in the late 1930s and 1940s. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275 and American Legion Post 96. He was a member of Cedar Knob Hunting Club in West Virginia, the Paradise Hunting Club, Pinto, Md., and the Buckeye Snipers. He was a great outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. Survivors include a brother, George J. Feison, of Bluffton, Indiana; a sister, Sylvia A. Hauenstein, of Lima, Ohio; three nieces, Debra (Robert) Schaefer, Pam (Bud) Gould and Becky (Ty) Butterfield, all of Lima, Ohio; two nephews, Nick Feison, of Florida, and Mark (Rose) Feison, of Lima, Ohio; and eight great-nieces and -nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles Feison, Nicholas J. Feison and Victor Feison. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. John Catholic Church. The Rev. Charles Obinwa will officiate. Burial will be in Gethsemani Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, where a wake service will be held at 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John Catholic Church.
