JOHN PITZ, 76, died at 1:15 p.m. May 15, 2005, at Plus Health Care Center. He was born Dec. 17, 1928, in Barberton to John Joseph and Lois Ellen Cutter Pitz, who preceded him in death. On May 1, 1948, in Greenup, Ky., he married Della Pond, who survives in Lima. Mr. Pitz retired as a machine setter from Ford Motor Co. Lima Engine Plant. He had been a member of the AMVETS, Barberton. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 370 and United Auto Workers Local 1219. He was an Army veteran of World War II serving with the Army Corps of Engineers and in the Philippines as a military policeman. He enjoyed woodworking, archery, people and loved to travel. He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Survivors also include three sons, Stephen Michael Pitz of Lima, Greg Alan (Jennie) Pitz of Columbus and David Lee (Jackie) Pitz of Montgomery Creek, Calif.; a brother, William (Jean) Pitz; and seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Cyrus Carlyle and Lee Joseph Pitz; and two sisters, Marilyn Theken and Eleanor Cox. Memorial services will begin at noon Wednesday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. Dottie Kaiser will officiate.
